Supported by the Carolina Seminars program, the Triangle French History and Culture Seminar brings together researchers from UNC, Duke, NCSU and other local institutions for lively discussions of new scholarship in all areas of French and francophone history, culture, literary studies, and art history, with an emphasis on interdisciplinary work. Topics of recent and/or frequent discussion include French social movements and their legacies, the French empire, and French-American intellectual exchanges, among other subjects. Check out our virtual Seminar Library to see a list of recent publications that have previously been discussed by the group.
We meet approximately once a month during the academic year, either in the John Hope Franklin Conference Room at the National Humanities Center or on Zoom. Draft papers for discussion will be posted on the password-protected Papers page of this website approximately two weeks in advance of each meeting.
All are welcome to join our discussions and we particularly encourage graduate students in the area to participate. To be added to the mailing list, please contact one of the co-conveners:
Michael Garval, French, NC State
Ellen Welch, Romance Studies, UNC-Chapel Hill
