Please join us Sunday, January 25 at 5pm on Zoom for our next seminar meeting. Renée Altergott, Assistant Professor in French and Francophone Studies at ECU, will be discussing a draft chapter from her book project, Acousmatic Subversions: Representing Power through Sound and Listening in the French Colonial Empire. The chapter, entitled “Maroon Acousmatics,” is currently available on the password-protected Papers page of this website.

Renée writes: “My chapter draft, ‘Maroon Acousmatics,’ focuses on historical and literary texts that depict maroons who use sound and listening to subvert colonial power. In doing so, many of these postcolonial authors also challenge the traditional narrative applications of this canonical sound studies term [acousmatics].”

Please contact a co-convener for this month’s password to access the paper. Due to the anticipated winter storm, we will be meeting on Zoom only. Please contact a co-convener for the Zoom link.
